Inside Quarantined

The Corona Virus has put our whole world in shutdown. Here are some opinions of the people in quarantine and how they're spending their time.

Corona is a very serious problem in a not so serious society. A ton of people have continued to go out into the world. My neighborhood, on the other hand, has definitely not stepped five yards away from their house. The situation is changing hour by hour, each minute longer than the last.

Inside Quarantined

“I was getting dressed for school one morning and my mom came in and said, you don't attend school anymore.” -Isabel B.

I have interviewed friends and family from Miami, New York, and Georgia. These are their individual experiences with COVID-19 and how it has affected them. Some are a little crazier than the others.

Crazy... pretty crazy

This virus has changed everyone’s life, but some are changing in a way you might not expect. Isabel B.’s experience definitely falls under this category. “I was getting dressed for school one morning and my mom came in and said you don’t attend school anymore.” Weeks before Miami-Dade county shut down their schools, Isabel’s parents shut hers down for her. She wasn’t alone for too long but for a brief moment she was Isa- the middle school dropout, a.k.a. every teens idol.

New York City is also getting hit pretty hard currently having 7,102 confirmed cases of the virus. “Every other school was getting canceled...except ours. It was frustrating.” Sophie told me. For her, this all hits pretty close to home, literally. (She lives on Long Island). Her school was a little behind the others but I am happy to report that she is now stuck at home bored as can be. Okay, maybe I’m not that happy to report it.

I'm really bored...”

After interviewing three different girls my age from Miami, there was one thing that they all said in common. “I’m really bored.” With hours of free time to waste and almost no schooling it makes sense that they would feel this way. There may not be a cure to corona but there definitely is one to boredom. Isabel has been tanning and learning new skateboard tricks; her goal is to be “the color of a gingerbread man.” When I asked Sidney about why she had been doing so much artwork, she said - “Because I’m bored, what else am I going to do?” Nina’s approach is to watch Netflix and splash in the pool with her family.

A different point of view

I interviewed a lot of girls my age. So, I decided to find a different point of view and talked to my mom. She works for some hotels and with tons of non-essential businesses getting closed down, she really feels the effect. When I asked her what the worst part of everything was, she said, “A lot of people that I’ve worked for have been temporarily laid off.” To cope with something as hard as this, she has been planting her very own six-part vegetable garden.

Thank you so much for reading my very first blog post! I hope that your families are healthy and safe. The cure for my boredom is simple- BLOGGING. More posts will be coming soon, so watch out. Don’t forget, life blogs suck. (except mine)
